The Singers and Graphite Publishing announce
Choral Horizons: A New Music Reading Session
 May 18-19, 2009

CALL FOR SCORES
POSTMARK DEADLINE: JANUARY 5, 2009

The Singers and Graphite Publishing seek unpublished choral works for the first annual Choral Horizons new music reading sessions and workshop.  The Singers is a professional choral organization formed to impact the community with its presentation of choral music performed at the highest level of artistry. Under the direction of Matthew Culloton, the 40-voice choir performs a wide range of repertoire, from the choral classics to newly commissioned works.  The music published by Graphite Publishing includes quality compositions where excellence and accessibility meet. It is unique yet emotional; it challenges the listener, and is enjoyable to experience.

Choral submissions must be composed for SATB choir (up to eight-part divisi) and may be a cappella or with piano accompaniment.  Scores should be engraved in music notation software and the total performance time of the work should be 3-6 minutes. Composers may send up to two different scores.

Three finalists will be selected to attend the two-day workshop. Of the finalists, at least one Minnesota resident will be chosen. Finalists will play an interactive role in the rehearsal and the reading session, both of which will be open to the public.  Finalists will also receive a private workshop session with Matthew Culloton and a composer from the selection panel.  A recording of the reading session will be given to the finalists for their personal and professional use.

All finalists will receive accommodations and a modest travel stipend to attend the workshop.  First prize will be $500 and the option to have the winning score published by Graphite Publishing.  Judges reserve the right not to choose a winner.

Please send one or two anonymous scores marked with a pseudonym, along with a sealed envelope marked with the same pseudonym containing biographical and contact information, plus a $10 application fee to The Singers—Minnesota Choral Artists.  (Only one application fee required per composer.) If you are a Minnesota composer, please add “MN” after your pseudonym on all scores and envelopes. Do not send recordings or MIDI realizations.  Please postmark materials by January 5, 2009 and mail to:

528 Hennepin Ave S, Suite 216

All submitted works will be considered for future programming or publication.
