Notes:
In this arrangement of the famous folk song, the
melody stays in unison for most of the song, while the graceful piano
line keeps the motion moving forward. A two-part section offers some
harmony which Takach uses to paint the text wonderfully. It is a great
piece for a talented group of young singers, or as a duet, with the
two singers trading verses.
Text:
Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
How often at night when the heavens are bright
With the light of the glittering stars,
Have I stood here amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds that of ours.
Then I would not exchange my home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play;
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
