I Will Howl
A quirky fantasy piece, which seems right out of Tolkien or C. S. Lewis.
TBB, cello
A goblin and nymph are arguing about glass beads – this piece will be a ton of fun to put together. The notes are accessible, but the singers will have to count! A delightful piece to add to a concert program, this will delight your singers and surprise your audience
Composer’s Notes
Can’t you just see this scene in your mind? It’s a poem that has no context that I know of, and yet it seems right at home alongside “The Lord of the Rings” or a Neil Gaiman graphic novel. Have fun with this piece – with tbe text, the meter, the accents, everything. The only way an audience is going to really enjoy this piece is if YOU bring it to life for them.

Text
Nymph, nymph, what are your beads?
Green glass, goblin. Why do you stare at them?
Give them me.
No.
Give them me. Give them me.
No.
Then I will howl all night in the reeds,
Lie in the mud and howl for them.
Goblin, why do you love them so?
They are better than stars or water,
Better than voices of winds that sing,
Better than any man’s fair daughter,
Your green glass beads on a silver ring.
Hush, I stole them out of the moon.
No.
I will howl in a deep lagoon
For your green glass beads, I love them so.
Give them me. Give them.
No.
